Nanotechnology: The Good, the Bad and the Unknown

Nanotechnology is often said to represent the next great technological revolution. The possibilities are fascinating and exciting but technology has always been a two-edged sword. For all the imagined opportunities of nanotechnology, there are important questions related to potential economic shifts in the global balance of power, disruptions in the global work force, environmental threats, military and national security applications, bioetechnology and others. My interests are primarily in emerging technologies in health care, and nanotechnology is one of several technologies that are converging to create unprecedented control over human biology and functioning. How and where do we begin to consider how to make the best use of this leap in human mastery without letting the technology get too far ahead of us?
